Iowa State University researchers have been part of an international effort to improve the health of small poultry flocks of indigenous types of chickens that provide meat, eggs and income-producing opportunities important for food security in Africa.

UC Davis researchers found that implementing a basic income program for impoverished mothers in Yolo County resulted in reduced depression and increased quality time with their children. This suggests that basic income could be a transformative solution to combat child poverty in California.

In recent decades, food banks have adopted policies and practices to make sure people not only have access to food but also healthy and nutritious food. But until now, food banks have had few ways to evaluate those initiatives.

Recently, the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) designed and funded Food for All, a grocery distribution program focused on addressing COVID-19-aggravated food insecurity among Asian communities in South Sacramento.

Through a Public Impact Research Initiative seed grant, Associate Professor Katherine Kim from the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing and the School of Medicine has been working with the Nature Rights Council to enhance the Yurok Tribe's capacity for health disparities research and program evaluation, as well as strengthen the quality of university’s community-engaged research. 

As county residents continue to shelter in place, the Yolo Food Bank is running a new delivery service with the help of UC Davis staff members and students.
