First-Year Seminar Community Engaged Learning (FYS-CEL) courses give students the opportunity to build community with each other while exploring some of the complex issues impacting societies today. Through these small, hands-on courses, instructors can help new students learn about community engagement methods, theories, and practices that equip them to collaboratively address the needs and challenges of a diverse and changing world.

Public Impact Research Initiative Projects

This initiative was established to recognize UC Davis faculty and support research that will have a public impact – meaning it is useful to, and developed in concert with, diverse constituents beyond the university. These types of collaborations with non-university partners allow our faculty and researchers to see the transformative effects on their research: public scholarship not only improves research questions and methods but also deepens their relationships with community partners.

Public Scholarship Faculty Fellows

The Public Scholarship Faculty Fellows aims to support individuals who are working to develop new avenues of scholarship with high potential for public impact, including developing relationships with community partners, identifying ways to integrate scholarship with policy, applying for extramural funding, and writing or presenting on their research for broad audiences.
