How to Apply for the Public Scholarship Faculty Fellows Program

Participation Guidelines and Application Details

Participation Guidelines

Participants commit to a series of six meetings, each approximately three hours, between October 2024 and March 2025. Since this is a learning community, participants are expected to prepare for and engage actively in each session. Fellows are required to attend every meeting. The meetings are scheduled for the following Fridays from 12 - 3 p.m., and will be conducted both remotely and in person (alternating).

  • October 18, 2024  (in person)
  • November 15, 2024 (remote)
  • December 13, 2024 (remote)
  • January 17, 2025 (in person)
  • February 21, 2025 (remote)
  • March 14, 2025 (in person)

Public Scholarship Faculty Fellows are asked to complete one public-facing blog post (or equivalent communication opportunity) about their engaged scholarship, for publication on the Public Scholarship and Engagement website.

Selected Fellows also are asked to participate in a survey about public engagement experiences at UC Davis, and to contribute information about their projects in a university-wide data dashboard.

Public Scholarship Faculty Fellows who complete the program and required blog post will receive a one-time award of $1,000 in an Academic Enrichment Fund (AEF). AEF guidelines are provided here.

Selection Criteria

The selection criteria include: a well-conceived plan for a project focused on publicly engaged scholarship including specific goals and outcomes, and an understanding of how the PSFF program is likely to help the Fellow pursue these goals.

  • writing a public scholarship focused manuscript for an academic or professional journal
  • writing a book chapter, book proposal, or similar that is for a non-university audience
  • planning a public exhibition, performance, conference, or colloquium
