Deepening Commitment to Social Justice, Engaged Student Learning
Public Scholarship and Engagement Announces 2022 Cohort of Community Engaged Learning Faculty Fellows
Public Scholarship and Engagement is thrilled to welcome the 2022 cohort of Community Engaged Learning Faculty Fellows, signifying a sustained commitment to strengthening this experiential learning for UC Davis students.
While community-engaged learning courses may take different forms, they all include collaboration with a community partner that is connected with course content and disciplinary perspectives. The community-engaged learning courses also require ongoing and documented student reflection. The courses developed by Community Engaged Learning Faculty Fellows this year will all incorporate equity and justice – pillars of the UC Davis Principles of Community.
“I am thrilled to see we have a cohort of faculty committed to integrating social justice into student learning experiences,” said Vice Provost of Public Scholarship and Engagement Michael Rios. “It is a reflection of the type of community-based experiential learning that students are seeking out as they develop skills to become socially impactful leaders.
Fellows accepted to the program will be given the charge to integrate community-engaged scholarship into existing courses, or create new curricular experiences, with the goal of teaching UC Davis undergraduate students about the principles behind and value of this type of academic work. Fellows will be supported in their work through individual mentorship, opportunities to collaborate with other cohort members at monthly meetings, and financial support provided by Public Scholarship and Engagement.
“We are excited to welcome this next cohort of Community Engaged Learning Faculty Fellows,”said Associate Vice Provost for Academic Programs Tessa Hill, who will lead the Fellowship. “This cohort reflects a commitment we have to adapting to the interests and needs of our faculty and university community – in this case focusing on topics of social justice and equity.”
The 2022 cohort includes:
- Gabriel Jack Chin: School of Law
- Liza Grandia: College of Letters and Science
- Jeannette Money: College of Letters and Science
